Shut up About Your Perfect Kid

As part of a series on mental health — the initial focus was autism, schizophrenia, depression; and, cutting.

However, I stumbled upon two amazing Massachusetts sisters who celebrated their ‘imperfect’ kids.

Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid authors – Gina Terrasi Gallagher and Patricia Konjoian —  shared the frustrations, sadness, and the stigma they experience as parents of Special Children.

Patty’s daughter Jennifer has bipolar disorder; Gina’s daughter Katie has Asperger’s syndrome.

Transitioning to the real world can be extremely overwhelming — as many young people “in care” often lack the basic skills, experiences, and resources essential for a successful adulthood.

However, like all young people they need opportunity, support; and, preparation.
